Community Gardens

19th February 2010

Within the context of health, well-being and good relations, SLIG is interested in developing a community vegetable and herb garden.

We feel that not only can we bring the communities together through mutual interests but we can enable older residents to bring their gardening expertise to bear in working with young people in the development and management of such a project.

Growing greens would also promote the concept of healthy eating amongst young people who, having grown the crop, may be more inclined to consume it!

Planning is at the early stages and we do need to enlist the help of experts who will partner us in developing what could be an innovative and interesting project so if any gardening experts, hobby gardeners, or anyone who has any ideas is reading this article, please get in touch with either Caroline or Cathal at SLIG on 02890629146.

Who knows, in the not too distant future, the Suffolk and Lenadoon communities may be having competitions with interesting prizes to see who can grow the biggest vegetables.
