Suffolk and Lenadoon in Questioning Mode
16th September 2010
The Suffolk and Lenadoon Communities in Outer West Belfast are taking a leaf out of the West Belfast Festival book by directly questioning politicians and others in a “Talks Back” event.
“Suffolk Lenadoon Talks Back” is at 7pm on Friday 24 September. Organised by the Suffolk and Lenadoon Interface Group (SLIG), the aim is to hold politicians and public servants directly and publicly to account. The event will be chaired by Nick Garbutt, the well-know former Irish News Editor and Belfast Telegraph Deputy Editor. Nick is currently researching SLIG’s unique story for a forthcoming publication and photographic exhibition. What promises to be an exciting evening, will be held in SLIG’s premises at 124 Stewartstown Road.
The panel while consisting mainly of politicians will also have a leading representative from the Northern Ireland Housing Executive. Included on the panel are Councillor Tim Atwood (SDLP); Sue Ramsey MLA (Sinn Fein), Paula Bradshaw (UUP) and Dawn Purvis (Ind. Unionist). Sean Mc Kenna (NIHE) will be the sole statutory sector panellist.
According to Joe Hamill, the SLIG Intercultural Worker who is organising the event, “everyone is welcome to attend.” This is an important opportunity, during increasingly difficult times, to find out what politicians can and will do to improve life on the ground in Outer West Belfast.
Light refreshments will be available at no charge at an event which is also free.
