Israeli Civic Society Group Learn from SLIG Approach
31st January 2011
Representatives of an Israeli civic society group paid a fact-finding visit to the Suffolk Lenadoon Interface Group (SLIG).
Two leading staff members of Yad Hanadiv, visited SLIG on 27 January. They were Yael Shalgi, Programme Director, Civil Society and Arab Community and Shuruk Ismail, Programme Officer, Arab Community.
The aim of their visit to SLIG and to Belfast is “to learn about the Northern Ireland experience with policies and projects for promoting employment and building good relations between the main sides of the conflict.”
Their focus is on employment and equality issues as these two civic-society representatives are keen to ensure best possible practise and to create mechanisms for fair employment in Israel.
Harry Maher, SLIG’s Strategic Development Manager said: “Part of our purpose is to reflect on building peace up-from-the ground by developing policies and good practise that can contribute in any way to improving understanding and relationships between communities. Hosting visitors like those from Yad Hanadiv is part and parcel of this process.”
