21st April 2011
Minister for Social Development Alex Attwood MLA came out strongly in favour of providing continued support for the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, citing the Stewartstown Road Regeneration project as confirming its worth.
Speaking at the 10th anniversary celebrations for the Stewartstown Road Regeneration Project, the minister revealed that from 2005, the Department has awarded approximately £1.85 million to the Lenadoon and Suffolk areas through the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.
“The Neighbourhood Renewal programme has funded a range of projects all aimed at tackling the key problem areas under the strategic objectives of social, economic, physical and social renewal. These projects have made major contributions in helping to improve the quality of life, social conditions and lifetime opportunities for people in deprived areas. The Stewartstown Road Regeneration project confirms the value of Neighbourhood Renewal and why it must remain the flagship programme to tackle disadvantage.”
